Swire Properties’ 300m office tower at Island East is an extension of their existing Taikoo Place development. HDA were appointed as specialist consultants for the design of the lobby glazing, suspended deck, canopy and footbridge link with adjacent properties.
For the lobby, tapered glass fins have been hung from the ceiling slab and propped laterally at the suspended floor level by a stainless-steel facade truss. All hardware used to support the glass is in high-grade stainless-steel, using bespoke castings and extrusions to achieve a unique language of tactility for these components. The suspended fins are cantilevered from the facade truss and then stopped just above eye level, in order to express maximal transparency and simplicity at the ground floor level.
The link bridgeis a discreet tubular steel truss which uses high-strength ties to minimise the visual presence the tension diagonals. Solar shading of the roof glass is achieved using a combination of louvres and frit patterns to ensure comfort whilst maintaining dramatic views up towards the top of the tower.
